Laboratory tests help identify the root cause of the diseases. It is very important to diagnose the actual disease at the right time to save money, time, and health. A doctor decides the treatment according to the laboratory testing report. The quality of the laboratory testing report depends on the diagnostic center. You should select the diagnostic laboratory with great caution because one wrong decision for your health can put your life in danger.

Here, I have explained five important things you should keep in mind before choosing a diagnostic center.

5 Things to Consider Before Selecting a Diagnostic Center

The awards and quality certifications of the laboratory add value to the clinical laboratory. The clinical laboratory can get many certifications Like ISO, NABH, NABL, etc. The laboratory certifications show that the medical laboratory is following essential laboratory standards. One should check for certifications about the diagnostic center on the website.

This is undoubtedly the number one priority for choosing the best diagnostic center. The diagnostic center that also uses advanced technology should be given priority. A small error in the machine modifies the entire result. Advance diagnostic equipment provides high-quality, error-free results with complete information in the report.

The laboratory tests also require skilled and trained technicians to perform them. You should choose a diagnostic center that is well established and is run by knowledgeable, experienced, and skilled medical practitioners and laboratory technicians.

The accuracy of lab reports is also very important. Faulty evaluation of the test can lead to serious complications and even the death of the patient. Health tests cannot afford errors in test reading. Doctors do the treatment based on the report provided by the clinical laboratory. You should choose a diagnostic center that is known for its quality test reports. The quality of the laboratory test report depends on the diagnostic equipment. A diagnostic center that uses updated equipment and good-quality reagents should be preferred.

Customer service also matters a lot. A good clinical laboratory provides many facilities to patients, like SMS reporting, web reporting, fast lab results, a patient help desk, an appointment facility, etc.

After thoroughly considering all the points the patients can take their decision.

You can also get these details about the clinical laboratory through its website, reviews on Google Maps, social media pages, and newspaper articles.

How to Select the Best Diagnostic CenterThe Arth Diagnostics Center has all the advanced facilities. Experienced and skilled doctors and technicians run the laboratory. The clinical laboratory won numerous awards for quality lab test services. The center also got the award of “Top Diagnostic Center” from the honorable Health Minister of Rajasthan, Shri. Raghu Sharma. In an event for Danik Bhaskar, Dr. Arvinder Singh, the CEO of Arth Diagnostics, gave information about the importance of laboratory testing. He also gave Important tips on selecting a diagnostic center.

Kidney Stones

Kidneys remove waste toxin fluid from the body through urine. Kidney stones develop when the volume of the toxin substance is greater than the fluid in the body. This happens for different reasons. In medical terms, kidney stones are also known as renal calculi, renal stones, or nephrolithiasis. It can develop in people of any age or gender.

Reasons for kidney stones

There is no particular cause of kidney stones. Some common causes of kidney stones are mentioned here.

Symptoms of kidney stone

Important Tips to prevent Kidney stone

Generally, kidney stones occur due to an insufficiency of water in the body. Due to less water, the toxin substance in the kidneys becomes hard and crystallized and takes the form of a stone. Less water intake causes less urine production. To prevent the development of kidney stones, you should drink at least 12 glasses of water a day. You should be extra careful, especially if you are involved in activities like gym work or sports that cause a lot of sweating. You should maintain a good water level in your body.

The dirt present on the surface of fruits and vegetables can cause kidney stones. You should properly wash the fruits and vegetables before eating or cooking them.

If you have had kidney stones in the past, you should be extra careful. Some foods, like spinach, beets, peanuts, seeds, grains, chocolate, and tea, have oxalate. If you are eating them, then the oxalate gets mixed with calcium in the urine and makes calcium oxalate stones. Hence, you should eat or drink calcium sources with them. By doing so, the oxalate binds with the calcium during digestion before it reaches the kidneys. You should take them in moderation, keeping in mind the overall health perspective. Strictly follow the advice of doctors. Moreover, you should not take a calcium supplement without consulting your doctor. The doctor suggests the right method to take any supplement.

If you eat a lot of salt that contains sodium, then it increases the calcium level in the urine. It can cause kidney stones. Moreover, you should also limit your consumption of foods with high sodium content. People who are prone to stones should follow a low-sodium diet.

If you already have kidney stones, then you should follow the advice of your doctor properly. You should take the prescribed medicine on time and also follow the diet advice. If you do not take proper measures in time, the kidney stones can come back.

Uric acid stone is a common type of kidney stone. Foods like red meat, organ meats, fish, dried beans, mushrooms, cauliflower, green peas, etc. cause high uric acid production. High uric acid levels can cause uric acid stones in the kidneys.

Kidney stones damage the kidneys. If stones are diagnosed early, then the condition can be improved. Doctors recommend treatment according to the size of the stone. A small kidney stone is not that harmful. It gets passed through urine without pain; however, big stones need proper treatment. The doctors decide whether you need medicine or surgery.

The Urine test and kidney sonography help to diagnose kidney stones. Doctors can also recommend a blood test to check the level of stone-forming minerals in your body. All these tests are available at Arth Diagnostics

Kidney Diseases

The kidney has a function to remove toxins and excess fluid out of the body. It is the filter unit for the body. Humans have two kidneys. If any of the kidneys has a problem then it cannot work as it should. In case one kidney fails or injured, the doctor removes the particular kidney. A person can also remain alive on one functioning kidney and live a healthy life. However, in that case, extra precautions should be taken.

Kidney diseases affect different parts of your body. Kidney failure is severe kidney disease. In kidney failure, the kidney stops working hence kidney transplant or dialysis is required. You should be aware of the causes of kidney diseases to prevent them. In many cases the causes of kidney disease are unknown. Here we have mentioned some general research-based causes of kidney disease.

Top 4 Reasons for Kidney Diseases

Diabetes is the primary cause of kidney diseases. People with diabetes are more prone to kidney diseases. Kidney disease caused by diabetes is categorized as Diabetic Kidney Disease. Excess blood sugar affects the functioning of kidneys. It damages the blood vessels in kidneys. Due to this, the excess waste fluid cannot get filtered out of the body. Over a period of time, the kidneys get damaged. If you have diabetes then you should regularly test blood sugar, urine, and blood pressure once in a year. Moreover, you should not hold urine for a long time because it increases the development of bacteria that has a high blood sugar level.

The blood vessels become thicker and stiffer with age. This is the common cause of high blood pressure in old age. High blood pressure puts extra pressure on blood vessels and damages the blood vessels that eventually put an adverse effect on kidneys. High blood pressure is one of the major reasons for kidney diseases.  Hence, if you already have blood pressure and you should keep an eye on this. In many cases, people with high blood pressure do not feel symptoms. Yearly health check-up is essential to monitor overall health.

Obesity increases the risk of many diseases like cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, and kidney disease. Obese people have higher chances to develop kidney disease than normal people. In obesity, the kidneys have to work harder due to excess fat in the body. Over time the extra work burden on kidneys increases the risk of kidney disease. You can prevent obesity by adopting a healthy lifestyle. In current modern times, a BMI test is available that can help us to know fat and muscle in the body.

Overuse of pain killers can lead to serious kidney damage. You should not take medicines without consulting doctors because medicines can cause side effects. Moreover, alcohol also put your kidneys and liver at risk. If you are taking supplements then you should take them after consulting with a doctor.

Above mentioned things can lead to kidney disease.

Common Symptoms of Kidney Diseases

In simple kidney disease, you may feel a few symptoms. Common symptoms of kidney disease – problem in urine (either too much or not enough urine), swelling in legs and ankles, not feeling hungry, trouble in breathing, nausea, vomiting, persistent itching, trouble in sleeping, and muscle cramps. You should not avoid these symptoms. Suddenly if kidney stops working then you may feel abdominal pain, fever, diarrhea, nose bleeds, back pain, and vomiting. If you have any of the symptoms then without wasting time you should immediately consult a doctor.

Test to check the health of Kidney

The renal function test (RFT) is a general test to test the kidneys. It includes various parameters like Urea, Creatinine, Calcium, Magnesium, etc. Generally, doctors recommend renal function test if symptoms of kidney disease are seen in patients. A kidney ultrasound is also performed to diagnose kidneys’ problems. If you have a family history of this problem then you should keep extra caution. You should go for a renal function test once a year. Early detection of disease will prevent further development. A urine test can also help to detect problems in the kidney.

Kidney problems can be treatable in the initial condition through proper care and treatment. However, some kidney damages are irreversible. If you already have health problems like high blood pressure and diabetes then you should take extra precautions.

General Precautions to Prevent Kidney Diseases

Fatty Liver Problem

Fatty liver means extra fat in the liver. A small amount of fat in the liver is common. However, excess fat in the liver is bad for our health. The liver is the second largest organ in our body. It has many important functions such as detoxification of blood and extraction of nutrients from food. In the fatty liver problem, the liver has to work harder to perform normal operations. In medical terms, fatty liver is called hepatic steatosis.

People, who have obesity or Type 2 diabetes, are at major risk of fatty liver disease. People who heavy alcohol consumption also has higher chances of fatty liver. However, people who do not consume alcohol can also have fatty liver problem because of an unhealthy lifestyle.

General Symptoms of Fatty Liver:

The symptoms of the fatty liver do not come early. Many persons who have this problem do not get symptoms at all. People get symptoms when the situation becomes critical. Some general symptoms of fatty liver problem are abdominal pain, weight loss, itchy skin, weakness, confusion, swellings of the leg, breast enlargement in men, nose bleeds, yellow skin, etc.

Type of Fatty liver:

Fatty liver has two types: Alcoholic Fatty Liver and Non Alcoholic fatty liver.

As the name says alcoholic fatty liver (AFL) occurs due to excessive alcohol consumption. Heavy alcohol consumption builds up fat in your liver. In alcoholic fatty liver, the doctor can suggest stopping alcohol consumption. Generally, the situation gets better when you stop alcohol consumption. The first condition of alcoholic fatty liver is enlarged liver then it progresses to alcoholic hepatitis and alcoholic cirrhosis.

Enlarged Liver:

This condition has no symptoms. Sometimes, a person may feel discomfort or pain on the upper right side of the stomach.

Alcoholic Hepatitis:

This is the condition of swelling in the liver. A person may experience stomach pain, fever, vomiting, and nausea. It can cause jaundice.

Alcoholic Cirrhosis:

This is a serious condition. The symptoms of this fatty liver problem are bleeding in your body, enlarged spleen, high blood pressure, fluid creation in the stomach, etc. It can lead to liver failure.

Non Alcoholic fatty liver has two conditions -simple fatty liver and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).

Simple Fatty Liver:

80 percent of people of nonalcoholic fatty liver has a simple fatty liver problem. It means you have fat in the liver. It is not a serious condition because it can get cured through precautions. People who are obese or poor eating habits can have a simple fatty liver. It does not cause swelling in the liver or damage to liver cells. It can cause problems later if not treated. You may feel tired or discomfort in simple fatty liver condition.

Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis:

This is a serious condition. In this condition, the liver has inflammation. It can cause fibrosis, cirrhosis, and liver cancer.

Stages of fatty liver:

The starting stage of the liver problem is simple fatty liver. It may lead to liver failure (cirrhosis) if proper care is not given. The first stage is the simple fatty liver (excess fat in the liver), the second stage is Steatohepatitis (excess fat and inflammation in the liver), the third stage is fibrosis (scarring in the liver) and the fourth stage is Cirrhosis (complete scarring of the liver leads to liver failure). It is important to prevent the development by implementing precautions.

Causes of Fatty Liver:

The exact cause of a fatty liver problem is not known yet. Some common causes of nonalcoholic fatty liver are obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, thyroid problem, frequent weight loss, hepatitis C, side effects of medications, etc. Excessive alcohol consumption is the reason for alcoholic fatty liver. An unhealthy lifestyle and poor food habits can also cause the fatty liver condition.

Diagnosis of Fatty Liver:

The liver function test is helpful to detect fatty liver problem. This is the blood test.  Other than a blood test, the doctor can also recommend an ultrasound, sonography, and MRI depending upon the severity of the condition.

Treatment for Fatty Liver:

There is no particular treatment for fatty liver disease. In simple fatty liver problem, the doctor recommends to change food habits, lose weight, and do exercise. In alcoholic fatty liver, the doctor recommends to stop alcohol consumption.  The doctor recommends surgery in a critical condition like liver cirrhosis,. A liver transplant is suggested in case of liver failure.

Prevention:

Prevention is better than cure. We should take care of our liver health.

If you are diagnosed with fatty liver problem, you should follow the advice of the doctor and go for a regular check-up. In many cases, simple fatty liver can be treated by changing lifestyles. You should avoid the problem even it is small. Once the problem becomes critical, it becomes difficult to treat. Hence, you should not compromise your health for anything.

Coronavirus or COVID 19 has posed a huge threat to the world. Many people are getting affected by COVID.

In this blog I am sharing important information you should know about coronavirus and also 6 powerful ways to increase self immunity to fight with coronavirus.

Coronavirus is an RNA type of virus. The virus mainly affects the respiratory system. It weakens the immune system. The common symptoms of coronavirus disease are fever, shortness of breath, dry cough, fatigue, body ache, sore throat, and diarrhea. The life of corona is different on different surfaces like Metal (5 days), Wood (4 days), plastic (2 to 3 days), Cardboard (24 hours), Copper (4 hours), Glass (up to 5 days), paper (up to 5 days), ceramic (5 days), and aluminum (2 to 8 hours).

Risk of Coronavirus

Research says that people who are already suffering from diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular and respiratory disease have a higher risk of coronavirus. People can protect themselves from coronavirus by increasing their self-immunity.

Role of Self immunity

Our body has a natural immune system that protects us from diseases.  In the current time, where the medicine or vaccine for coronavirus is not detected yet, strong self immunity is very important to fight this disease. Generally, immunity gets decreased as we grow older but due to a sedentary lifestyle the immunity also gets decreased at a young age. We easily get affected by diseases if our immunity is not good. You can apply these easy methods to increase self-immunity.

6 Ways to Increase Self Immunity

These things will not only prevent coronavirus but also help to prevent other diseases. Make sure you apply these tips and get protection from COVID

Important Points – Before we start the tips to increase self immunity, you must follow these things.

Nutrition Rich Diet

Our diet has a strong impact on our self immunity. A nutrition-rich diet gives the essential vitamins and minerals to our body. There is a famous poem which is the part of our childhood time is “Nani k Ghar jaege, Dudh malai khaege, mote hokar aayege” is no longer beneficial for today. In India, the problem of obesity is rising.  A sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy diet, and lack of health awareness are some common reasons behind this. Excess weight is putting our lives in danger. We can become a victim of many life-threatening diseases.

Health Risks of Obesity:

Obesity is the root cause of many diseases. Obese people are at a higher risk to easily get affected by these diseases.

  1. Type 2 Diabetes
  2. High Blood Pressure
  3. Heart Attack
  4. Fatty Liver
  5. Pregnancy Problems
  6. Kidney Diseases
  7. Arthritis
  8. Cancer
  9. Breathing Problems

Take a closer look at the contribution of obesity in the awakening of these diseases.

There is a strong relationship between obesity and Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes. In this disease, the blood sugar level increases up to the normal level. Research says that obese people are five times more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes. Currently, 90 percent of obese people are diabetic. Many people are not aware of their health. Hence, regular health check-up is important to diagnose the disease at a very early stage. If you are diabetic then you should do strict care to control your blood sugar.

Obese people are also at great risk of high blood pressure. Obesity puts pressure on the organ and arteries that create a problem in blood flow. High blood pressure is the leading cause of stroke, damaged arteries, heart failure, memory loss, kidney failure, vision loss, etc. Smoking, stress, lack of physical activity and heavy alcohol consumption are also some major causes of high blood pressure.

Obesity also puts pressure on the heart. A heart attack occurs because the blood vessels that carry blood become narrow and thick. A heart attack is the leading of sudden death in India. Excess weight increases bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Moreover, people who are diabetic are at greater risk of heart diseases.

The impact of obesity on the liver is quite similar to heavy alcohol consumption. Both obesity and alcohol can cause fatty deposits in the liver. Fatty liver tissues can damage the liver. If the damage is continuous, it can lead to cirrhosis. Fatty liver is the starting stage of liver diseases.

Obesity can also become a cause of chronic kidney diseases. Excess weight affects the functioning of the kidney. The kidneys are forced to work harder above the normal level. Over some time, the extra work pressure puts the kidneys at risk. Diabetes and high blood pressure are also common causes of kidney diseases. You can test your kidneys by just a simple blood test and urine test.

Obese women have some complications in pregnancy. Obesity harms fertility. It increases the risk of miscarriage, difficulty in giving natural birth, more baby fat, difficult to detect birth defects through ultrasound, etc. Government research Obesity in pregnancy: risk and management say that the child of an obese woman is at increased risk of congenital anomaly, prematurity, macrosomia, and neonatal death.

Obesity puts also extra pressure on the knees lead to Osteoarthritis. Knees bear the whole weight of the body. Excess weight can damage joints and ligaments. Studies found that obese people are more likely to need a knee replacement or hip replacement.

Cancer is also the leading cause of death in India. Excess weight also increases the risk of several cancers like breast cancer, uterine cancer, esophageal cancer, pancreatic and kidneys cancers. Fatty cells secrete hormones that promote the abnormal growth of cells. The cancerous cells also spread to other body parts easily.

Obese people have fat around their necks. These make them different from breath. Difficulty in breathing at night increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases and death as well.

One disease leads to other diseases. Hence, you should not give low weightage to any disease. Proper treatment should be taken as directed by physicians. The best way to control fat and prevent obesity is the Body Mass Index (BMI) test. BMI tests give details about the harmful fat stored in the body. The BMI test tells about the fitness score.

Iron deficiency or anemia means the body has insufficient iron. Iron produces hemoglobin that enables the red blood cells to carry oxygen to the body’s tissues. Anemia is relatively common among females and children.

Top Five Reasons for Iron Deficiency are:

Improper Diet:

Our body gets iron from what we eat. Children do not take a nutrition diet hence they do not get enough iron. Iron deficiency can be generally seen in toddlers, preschoolers, and teenagers because of increasing iron needs in the development phase. Premature babies are at increased risk of anemia because they do not get enough iron from breast milk.

Green vegetables, red meat, eggs, beans, peas, seafood, etc., are iron-rich foods. Our body absorbs iron more from red meat than from other sources. The vegetarian or vegan family has higher risks of iron deficiency. If we do not eat iron-rich foods then slowly overtime our body becomes iron deficient. Vitamin C also improves the absorption of the iron nutrient. Hence Vitamin C rich foods like oranges tomatoes, grapefruit, kiwi, broccoli, strawberries, etc. should be taken in conjunction with iron-rich foods.

 Blood Loss:

Blood contains iron. If we lose blood then we lose iron too. Women lose blood during menstruation cycle. Women with heavy bleeding are at higher risk of anemia. Some diseases such as peptic ulcer, hiatal hernia, and colorectal cancer can also cause iron deficiency.

The inability to absorb iron content from the food:

iron is absorbed in the small intestine. If the intestine is bypassed or removed surgically due to some reasons then this may affect your ability to absorb iron from food. This can lead to anemia. An intestine disorder like celiac disease also becomes a cause of the iron deficiency.

Pregnancy:

Iron deficiency occurs in pregnant women because they need iron for their bodies as well as the growing fetus. At that time, women should eat iron-rich food and iron supplements if the doctor recommends.

Frequent Blood Donors:

Frequent blood donors also have an increased risk of iron deficiency. Regular blood donation affects the iron store in the body.

Health Risks of Iron Deficiency:

Mild iron deficiency does not create serious complications. However, if iron deficiency left untreated then it may cause severe health problems. In some situations when the iron level gets too low, the person may require a blood transfusion. Anemia also affects brain development. It may cause heart problems, complications in pregnancy and growth problems. An iron-deficient person is more susceptible to infections.

Symptoms of Iron Deficiency:

The noticeable signs of anemia are given below:

Pale Skin

Brittle nails

Slow growth and development

Frequent infections

Behavioral problems

Increased sweating

Fatigue and weakness in the body

Craving of eating nonfood items such as dirt, paint, ice or starch

Shortness of breath or fast heartbeat

Cold hands and feet

Poor appetite especially in children

Prevent Anemia:

If these symptoms are seen then you should immediately consult a doctor. Iron deficiency is mainly diagnosed through the blood test that involves complete blood count including hemoglobin level. Depending on the test results, a doctor might recommend iron supplements or further testing. At Arth diagnostics, advance diagnostic equipment is available for testing iron deficiency anemia.

A person should not start an iron supplement without consulting a doctor because an overdose of iron can cause liver damage or even death. If a one is iron deficient then one should honesty follow the advice of a doctor and take the complete treatment.
